What Is A Workout?

A workout is 10 percent perspiration and 90 percent determination. It's physical, which believe it not, is the "easy" part. The hardest part is the mental.....self-discipline. Doing it becomes easier once you get going, but the problem is getting started. Too many of us are always "looking" for the perfect time to start......or here's my favorite....."I'll  wait until after the holiday to start working out." Funny how the "holiday" never comes or better yet there's a bunch of them!! I'm here to tell you there's no such thing as a perfect time when it comes to your health...so JUST DO IT!!
A workout makes you better today than you were yesterday. It strengthens the body, relaxes your mind and toughens your spirit. When you workout on a regular basis, your problems don't get you down and your confidence grows. DON'T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF!!
A workout is a personal triumph over laziness and procrastination. It is the badge of a winner and the mark of an organized, goal-oriented person that has taken charge of their own destiny. FOCUSED!!
A workout is a wise use of time, and an investment in excellence preparing for life's challenges and proving to yourself that YOU have what it takes to do anything you set your mind to finish strong. BELIEVE AND ACHIEVE.
A workout is a key that helps unlock the door to opportunity and success. Inside each of us is an extraordinary force waiting to surface.....physical and mental fitness are the triggers that can release it. ACCEPT YOUR GREATNESS.
A workout is a form of rebirth. Think about it....when you finish a good workout, you feel energized and ready to take on all challengers. You don't just simply feel better....You feel better about YOU!!! So, what does a workout mean to you?

"Something To Look Forward To"

I get asked all the time...."So I HAVE to eat the foods on my meal plan?" "How long will it take before I see results?" My answer is always.....No, you don't HAVE to do anything but if you are serious about getting your results, then why not try something different than you've done before.....If it doesn't work for you, then tell me I'm crazy and I'll go away and help the next person. If you think of getting healthy as a hardship or a chore, then you'll be miserable trying to lose weight. It's a lifestyle change....only for the motivated to really change their eating habits and accept that the weight didn't come on overnight, so......you know the rest.

Fortunately for me, time is on my side and by taking the stance I do on this issue, I've been able to train/coach some remarkable people to reach their own fitness goals and aspirations. Ultimately, they all came to realize that once they accepted the healthy lifestyle, the RESULTS were around the corner!  I can tell you this....."The things you do today towards your fitness goals will show up in your body two months from now." So if RESULTS are what you're after, you'll have to wait and see. Start today and I guarantee you'll feel better, your clothes will start to loosen up, and just maybe if you stick with it.......those results you're looking for will be staring back at you in the mirror. If that's not "something to look forward to"-I don't know what is!

"Snacks!"

Eating good and staying on track can be hard at times. Especially when it comes to finding some easy snacks to fit in between meals. I have included some snack ideas you can use during the day if you're on the go or sitting at your desk. These are found at Trader Joe's and are low in fat. Remember to track your calories at http://www.myfitnesspal.com Enjoy! Stay "in the zone"

"Staying In The Zone"

Lately, I've been asked about substituting some of the foods I eat, or on the meal plans I write for others. I used to be really "strict" and didn't allow any concessions, because the only way to achieve that cut, defined look everyone is searching for, is to track your calories in a journal, use a calorie counting program like myfitnesspal.com, train on schedule, and eat clean (bland). Although, I believe in eating "super" clean, I've come to realize that some people start to burn out after awhile of eating bland and need variety and a little flavor on their plate. So, from time to time, I will post some variations on food choices that will keep you "in the zone" and on track to reach your goals. In this picture is what I ate for lunch today.....Island BBQ Tilapia-7 oz., Brown Rice-1 cup, and Broccoli- 1 cup. I've eaten this meal plenty of times before and some of you have this on your meal plan, but the tilapia has been marinated in seasonings and is low in fat. The broccoli is steamed from frozen and the brown rice is by "Organics" (3 min in microwave). Even if you don't get the "exact" fish, you get the idea that you can have flavor in your meals and still reach your goals. And when you decide to join the "Spartans" and eat clean, you'll be one step closer! Enjoy and stay "In The Zone!"

HAPPY SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!!

So it's finally here! The day, the "holiday", the ultimate sports day! I know people who put in vacation time at their jobs, so they have this ONE day in before the other sports heads do.....c'mon man it's Super Bowl Sunday!
I'll be the first to admit this is a cool day to spend time with friends and family and eat some food, but don't make it about the food and drinking. For some of us, this day comes right smack in the middle of a training goal in which we've been eating clean for weeks on end, and now the invites come to watch ATHLETES, while we eat and drink til' we pass out!! For others, this "holiday" is just another excuse to NOT start on a self-fitness program. Self-fitness because having a "fit" friend or spouse does not make you fit or healthy. Hanging out with fit people does not make you healthy or fit. Knowing a personal trainer or having friends who run, do zumba, weight train, cycle, yoga, swim, or anything active does not make you healthy. It simply is a decision to do something about your health and sticking to it......no holidays and weekends off.
It's okay to have fun and hang with friends and to EAT, but make it about the fun and eating foods that are beneficial for your body and fit within your goals. This sounds like it should be just a known fact, but it's easy to fall off the wagon thinking "Oh I'll have a small portion" or "this won't hurt to have a couple of beers." Trust me it's easy to make that mistake, then your wagon will have a broken wheel and next thing you know it's sitting in the backyard or the driveway getting rusty under the weather cover waiting until after the next "holiday" before it gets fixed. So HAPPY SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!! It's game time......get "In the zone" :)
